Rush - Feedback (2004)

Monday, April 6th, 2009

A Rush album of covers? Okay, I didn’t buy this when it came out, because I’d already seen all of the car commercials that featured these songs. It’s always amazing how old hard rock goes from the AOR stations to the brokerage commercials now.  I mean, I love Led Zeppelin and The Who, [...]

Rush in movie “I Love You, Man”

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

If you’re a Rush fan, you’ve probably already heard, but I’ll repeat it anyway: the Paul Rudd/Jason Segel movie I Love You, Man is pretty damn funny. It also features a pretty prominent plot element concerning the band Rush, along with a performance of the song “Limelight” by the band.
The movie is a buddy [...]

Fly By Night Original Handwritten Lyrics

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Here’s something I never saw before: original LP versions of Rush’s Fly By Night album had the lyrics on the inner LP sleeve.  The cool part - these were copies of hand-written lyric sheets by Neil Peart!
Andrew Olson was kind enough to scan copies of his album lyrics, and they are here.  Neil has pretty [...]

Rush Road Crew Documentary ‘Backstage Secrets’

Friday, February 13th, 2009

A documentary about Rush’s massive road show for Snakes and Arrows and the crew that kept it running has showed up on YouTube. It’s a five-hour documentary, and the first hour is posted in ten-minute chunks. If you’ve ever wondered the amount of work it takes to get a band like Rush into [...]

Rush - Roll the Bones (1991)

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Ugh. For Rush’s sophomore effort on Atlantic records, they slid further into mediocrity with more standard hard rock numbers, an unusually bright and bland production, and a general lack of noteworthiness that got them an album that somehow peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200, but failed to do anything interesting musically.

Rush - All The World’s a Stage (1976)

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

On the coattails of the wildly successful 2112, Rush decided to put out a quad-side, triple-gatefold live LP, named with a Shakespeare reference, recorded in their home town. This began a cycle where the band would release four studio albums, then bookend the era with a double live album. This time around, the [...]

Rush - The Story of Kings (1992)

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I’m a sucker for “unofficial releases” that are nothing more than a journo’s taped interview with a band, later set to CD-R boot. And here’s a classic example of this non-canon release: a half-hour chat with Alex Lifeson. Although the internets give this a release date of 1992, the conversation dates it at [...]
